A Day in the Life: From Blood Tests to Costco Runs

I was awake at six. Went out with my wife. She went to work. I went to the hospital for a blood test. Then a bus to a coffee shop. Priorities! Then another bus to Costco. Waiting outside for them to open at 10:00.

Well, half an hour and £260 later, Costco shopping is done. Waiting for Uber now, as too much to get on the bus!

When I got home, it took me much longer to portion the meat for the two of us. Still, we have enough meat for 44 days. I also got yoghurt and cheese. I do prefer cheese from the cheesemongers, but the Costco stuff is better than regular supermarket stuff, and good enough for my sandwiches for work. Now, I think I might have a stroll to the pub for a couple of pints. I need to check when Amazon is arriving first, though. It’s Subscribe & Save Delivery Day.

I had 3 pints of London pride and a Lamberger and fries at the Queen’s head and then I’m on my way home because Amazon delivery flagged that going to arrive any time from 315 actually turns out that I’m more than one delivery but the first one only arrived at 5:15. But it doesn’t matter because I didn’t really wanna have any more to drink at the pub anyway. I feel quite tired, and I have to get up early for work.

Infusions

One thing I have to restart for the New Year is my regular eight-weekly infusions at West Middlesex Hospital. The first one was this morning.

After having a little game to get there, with various buses and ending with a short walk from the main road, I got there just in time for my 09:30 appointment.

West Middlesex Hospital – Main Entrance

After leaving there and just missing an H22 bus, we took a 117 and got off at Bell Corner and went into The Moon Under Water, the local Wetherspoons Pub on Staines Road.

Wetherspoons Large Breakfast

We were both hungry. Kathy had the American Breakfast, with pancakes and syrup, eggs and sausages, and I had the full English above.

Some decent beers were on the handpump there too. I had a couple of them.

There are the snobs out there who complain about Wetherspoons, but I’ve always had a decent cask ale in my local one, and found the food to be of decent quality too.

Another Week Rolls By

This week has been pretty much the same as last week, although the lockdown is easing. Kathy has gone back to work albeit for shorter hours for now.

At work we are gearing up to move operations nearer to normal. Fares are soon going be collected again and front doors reopened. This depends on how quickly the company can get the drivers’ cab areas sealed properly. Once done, they’ll be examined before being allowed to leave the garages. Every single vehicle will be checked.

Life outside work goes on as before. Although non-essential shops are being allowed to open from the 15th June, the hospitality sector is still closed down. There’s not much point going out on a day off, as there’s nowhere to go for a coffee, a beer, lunch or dinner. It is a bit tiresome I guess, but I fully understand the necessity, of course. It would be crazy to rick a second wave right now by opening everything up too quickly. Even at Government level, it’s still all pretty much a guessing game; a balancing act.

I ordered some more beer, this time from Electric Bear Brewing Company. £35 for 12 assorted cans. 4 each of Session IPA; A Wheat Beer; an IPA and an American Pale Ale, which is pictured below.

I had a couple of these on Friday evening. Went down nicely with some of the chicken from The Ethical Butcher.

Weirdness

A Weird Day for sure. I was awake around five am. I couldn’t sleep and I went into work early.

When I got there I found that Sam was leaving. I have always had a good working relationship with Sam and I am genuinely sad to see her leave.. Still we all have to follow the path we think is best for us.

I think that the company is treating us very shabbily with regard to the Coronavirus. I voiced out my opinions to the General Manger, not that it really made much difference.

I left work around 3pm and headed to the Queen’s Head. I had a few drinks in there for what might be the last time in good while.

Had a few pints, and then walked home. I love life, and I’m gonna live it.

Kathy made dinner, some pork chops and some veggies to go with it. Very tasty.

Relaxed with a few tunes and another beer,

Friday The 13th

I’m not superstitious. No really, I’m not. I truly believe that some people allow their stress and anxiety levels to rise quite unnecessarily over such things. The same as with astrology; I don’t believe in that stuff either!

Today turned out to be a quiet day on a personal basis. Got into the office around eight am. Although I’m getting told there is less traffic on the roads and less people in the shops and less folks moving around outside generally, the bus was certainly busy in the rush hour with commuters and school kids.

There was little going on with stuff at work. I was hoping for a meeting with the General Manager but he wasn’t around so that didn’t happen. I emailed him anyway. I always email because then I have an auditable trail I can follow.

In the office.

I didn’t stay at work late as I was not in demand and I had done several extra hours on Wednesday in any case.

On the way home I stopped by the Queen’s Head for a couple of pints and a chicken tikka baguette. I didn’t stay too long; about an hour and a half. I walked home and got some dinner ready. I found some wiser pounder burgers in the freezer and they went nicely with some sauerkraut and salad.

After dinner we watched some programmes on BBC2 and retired to bed around 9.30pm.
